Scripps Mercy Hospital held a celebration for the opening of the new Mercy Foundation facility in downtown San Diego. Mercy Hospital has been around for 113 years. The new Mercy Foundation will be centrally located to serve the community more appropriately.

Scripps Mercy Hospital is one of the top 100 hospitals in the world for patient care and one of the top 50 hospitals for senior care. At this celebration of the new foundation facility there were many surprises, a very special one for Mercy, Sister LaSalette Trevillyan.

A portrait was unveiled of her. However, one of the most extraordinary things about the portrait was, an artist who is also an employee at Scripps, Prince Whiting III painted it. Prince painted this portrait to help celebrate Sister LaSalette’s 70th birthday and her long time employment here at Mercy Hospital.

Scripps CEO Tom Gammiere and Chief Director Gerald Davee unveiled the painting.

The crowd was astonished at the portrait and there was an overwhelming amount of applause and acceptance of the talent of Prince Whiting III.

A request came from a Senior VP Regional Administrator of Scripps Mercy, Tom Gammiere for Prince Whiting II to paint a portrait of Sister LaSalette. Unbeknown to Tom Gammiere, Prince has done several portraits of celebrities such as Tiger Woods, Jackie Kennedy and Barry Bonds. Prince has a real talent, view more of his work at www.princewhiting.com

We look forward to one day saying we knew this great artist when he worked at Scripps Mercy Hospital, one of America’s top 100 hospitals.

Tiger Woods, the world’s greatest golfer paused between shots to autograph a portrait of himself painted by San Diego artist Prince Whiting , III at the recent Mercedes Golf Championship held at the La Costa Resort and Spa. Whiting painted “The Master” shortly after Wood’s unprecedented victory at the Master’s Golf Tournament last March.

“I was inspired to paint Tiger after he won his first Masters tournament Championship in 1997.”

“It was truly a pleasure to finally meet this international hero,” says Whiting. Tiger Woods was voted number one athlete of the year by Associated Press. Whitting says he was inspired to paint Mr. Woods after he broke four records in 1997 Masters Golf Tournament. He became the youngest and first black player ever to play and win the Masters. It was the most watched game of golf ever.
